Obiano flags-off Zero Pothole Project

Governor Willie Obiano in his resolve to make Anambra roads come alive, has just flagged off the Zero-Pothole project. The project is geared towards patching the potholes on roads in all the local government areas of the state.
Speaking before the flag-off, governor Obiano stated that its high time maintenance culture returned to the state. He expressed hopes that with the array of trained personnels and machineries involved, the project which is on experimental basis will be sustained.
He disclosed that the first segment of the project involves a team of 150 young men and women properly trained on road maintenance, patching of potholes as well as the shoulders.

He revealed that the equipments required for the project have been provided as work is expected to commence immediately. We have all the equipments.
He added that more Anambrarians will be employed as soon as the experiment works out. He however expressed assurance that it will work out.
He urged the people of Anambra to imbibe the culture of cleanliness adding that it is an offence to dump refuse in the drainage or litter the environment.
He further charged the local government chairmen to take ownership of the project for easy identification of roads that needs the palliative measure.
"You are now fully commissioned to start work. You are to start this afternoon", Obiano concluded.

Earlier in his address of welcome, the chairman of Awka South Local Government, Area, Prince Azubuike Iloh commended Governor Obiano for his measures in reducing accidents on Anambra roads. He described the project as one of the dividends of democracy the people of Anambra. In his words, "You have a lot of good intentions and also going the extra mile in actualizing it". He advised that local government councils should be involved adequately in the project for effective identification of ailing roads as well as close monitoring.

In his address, the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Law chinwuba posited that maintenance culture has been lacking for long in the state and this explains why the Governor decided to bring up the measure. Hon. Chinwuba disclosed that 50 youths have been employed per senatorial zone for the work. He added that there are enough equipments and machineries for the work ." Anambrarians have never had it so good like this", he noted. The honourable commissioner further enjoined the employed youths to take the work as a service to the state adding that they will soon be trained in the art of road mapping.
Delivering the vote of thanks, the senior special assistant to the governor on special projects, Hon. Emeka James Okoye commended Obiano for the passion he has in making Anambra roads one of the best in the country. "The vision you have for Anambra roads will be achieved", he prayed.
