Rivers State Governor,Barrister Nyesom Wike has inaugurated the post primary schools board at the Government House Port Harcourt, River State.
Governor Wike restated the board’s importance to the newly inaugurated members as regards the management of Government owned secondary schools in the state.
The Governor who gave the assurance that most of the public owned secondary schools will be renovated revealed that the Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Emma Okah, has already prepared the Bill of quantities which will be handed over to the board for keeps.
Wike stressed that the board was charged with the responsibility of implementing the refurbishments of the secondary schools under the supervision of a Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education.
The Governor also assured the board members that a new Commissioner for Education will resume office on Monday, November 16th , 2015.
The State Chief Executive warned that the job was tedious and threatened to sack any board member who endorses substandard and poor quality work from contractors.
“This job is an unpopular one. You must not spare any erring contractor because of ethnic consideration or any other influence. You will lose your job. Take the job as a contribution and commitment to Rivers state. You are not the only persons qualified for this job”, Governor Wike stressed.
The Governor said only the Chairman of the board is entitled to one personal assistant and they are not entitled to offices, stressing that other members can hire PAs provided they are ready to pay their salaries.
Responding, the Chairman of the newly inaugurated board, Hon. David Briggs,promised on behalf of his members not to disappoint the Governor.
“We pledge our unalloyed loyalty to your vision. We are one voice and one unity, we will not disappoint you and the people of Rivers State“ He said.
