NIMC apologizes for service disruption @ enrollment centres

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has tendered an unreserved apology to prospective enrollees for the interruption of services at some of its National Identity number (NIN) enrollment centres across the country.

In a statement signed by the General Manager, Corporate Communication in the Commission, Abdul-hamid Umar, the Commission expressed regret over the disruption and inconveniences suffered by Nigerians and attributed it to power failure and urged them to bear with it as it address the issues through the deployment of alternative power sources.

Buhari-NIMC‘‘The attention of the National Identity Management Commission has been drawn to series of complaints by Nigerians resulting from interruption of services at some of our NIN Enrollment Centres across the country, due to power failure.

‘‘Citizens are urged to please bear with NIMC as we address these issues through the deployment of alternative power sources, even in the face of scarce resources.’’
In the light of this, Umar advised citizens to avail themselves the opportunity of utilising the online pre-enrollment portal (www.penrol.gov.ng) to pre-register their demographic data and printout a 2D barcode to take with them for presentation at the enrollment centre, and reduce the amount of time required for the exercise.

He furthermore reminded citizens and legal residents that the NIN is their identity and most important to the Commission and not the physical e-ID Card.
According to him, the Commission had already commenced issuing the cards to those who enrolled and have their NIN.

‘‘The general public is hereby urged to bear with the Commission as we do our best to deliver on this painstaking but all important national assignment, which does not only involve the delicate capturing and storage of data, but a sequence of high technology driven processes that ensures a secured and dependable database and e-ID Card,’’ he said.
