The  World Bank erosion control project in Umuoji, Idemili North Local government Area of Anambra state is now under threat following the attack on the workers by mystery snakes .

World Bank consultant, Mr  Silver Yance , who disclosed this to newsmen on  Friday in a chat described the threat as a serious challenge.

He said each time his workers were at the site of the erosion project , nest of snakes would appear and ‘harass’ them.

Yance said “This is one of the challenges we are facing . Other challenges are inappropriate drainage systems that were often channeled into farmlands and residential quarters.

He noted that erosion sites in the state were all life threatening because they were in densely populated areas.

The World Bank consultant said about six families had lost their homes in Ikenga Ogidi, idemili North local government area of the state within the last six months.

He said World bank was currently undertaking eight projects in various parts of the state.

He commended the pace of work on the projects, noting however that more efforts were needed in some of the projects, especially in the area where the mystery snakes constituted a problem.

Mike Ivenso  who represented the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, on the occasion, noted that the state had lost about N30billion worth of property  to erosion recently.
