The Governor made the submission on Tuesday in Akure while addressing the participants of a One-Day Women Leadership Capacity Building Workshop, organized for women political aspirants in Ondo, Ekiti and Osun States by the Women Arise.
Dr Mimiko, who opined that women had crucial roles to play both at the domestic, state and national levels, as reliable allies of progress for societal transformation, noted that economic empowerment of women must be accorded priority to enable them play active role in the political scenario of Nigeria.
While stressing the need to craft out policies that will protect the rights of women, Governor Mimiko said the Widow Right Bill was being worked upon in the State with a view to further guaranteeing the rights of women.
In her speech, the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jumoke Akindele, noted that the political scenario in the State gives unlimited opportunities to women to showcase their potential in the political circle.
She urged women to bring themselves to the fore of service to humanity and in decision making process.
Earlier in her welcome address, the president of Women Arise, Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin, explained that the workshop was put together to cultivate leadership capacity in the women and spur them to become more politically relevant.
Odumakin, who described women as the lubricants for the survival of any society, charged them to stop agonising, but instead, they must organise themselves for future challenges.
