The Restoration Campaign Organisation of Governor Seriake Dickson has advanced reason for near low key campaign activities by the Peoples Democratic Party citing the recent demise of the first civilian governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.
Director of Media and Publicity of the Restoration Campaign Organisation, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite, stated this during an interactive session with newsmen in Yenagoa.
He said though the campaign organisation led by a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Fred Agbedi, the PDP and the Governor, Seriake Dickson are meeting and getting endorsed by the various stakeholders in the state ahead of today wards and local government campaigns, the decision to embark on low key and strategic campaign was due to the love and respect for late Chief Alamieyeseigha.
According to him, the decision to suspend the earlier scheduled campaign was to honour the late pioneer civilian governor of the state.
“Alamieyeseigha was the closest to the Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson and as a true Ijaw son, we appreciate him for that,” he said.
Obuebite said though the decision may have effect on the scheduled campaigns, “no matter how it hurts, we will engage in a quiet and effective campaign with verifiable achievements based on truth.
“The only thing Alamieyeseigha want PDP to do is to win second term for him. He was a fearless leader and want us to stop them (APC) from leading us into another era of holocaust.”
He, however, announced that the Restoration Campaign Organisation and the PDP have fixed today (November 3) as the date for the commencement of campaign activities in the 105 wards of the state and the local government areas.
“We are telling the people that Governor Dickson is the best thing that has happened to Bayelsa. This is a government that cannot take from state account and help itself. All loopholes created for fraudulent spending have been blocked,” he said.
