Court sacks Benue Speaker

(iStock)The Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi, Benue State has sacked the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Terkimbi Ikyange.

The court in its ruling on Thursday ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) to delineate the  Ushongo state constituency., the constituency the Speaker represents in the House.

The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to withdraw the certificate of return it issued to Ikyange with immediate effect.

In her judgment, Justice Binta Nyako ordered INEC to respect the 2005 judgment and conduct election into Ushongo and Mbagwa state constituencies or any other names th at it may be called.

The court had in 2005 held that the people of Ushongo state constituency were eligible for two constituencies and ordered as such.
