Buhari scraps SURE-P , Affirms Nigeria’s support for peace in Africa

President Muhammadu Buhari has scrapped the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P).
This order was delivered to the SURE-P committee via a letter from the Of-fice of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal.
President Buhari, in a letter, directed the panel to wind down operations of the programme on or before October 31, 2015 and submit a comprehensive report of its activities to the Presidency.
SURE-P was established by former president Goodluck Jonathan in January 2012 in the wake of the nationwide protest against the removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit(PMS).
The aim of the programme was to manage government’s share of savings from the removal of fuel subsidy and invest it on critical infrastructure projects and social programme.
Meanwhile, the president has assured that all efforts to achieve political stability and maintain peace in Africa will continue to receive Nigeria’s full support.
He stressed that under his leadership, Nigeria will remain at the forefront of efforts to achieve enduring peace, security and progress in all African nations.
He gave the assurance when he had audience with Special Envoys of President Pierre Nkurunziza of Burundi, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Buhari said this was necessary because whatever happens elsewhere in Af-rica affects Nigeria directly or indirectly.
