Borno Central by-election: PDP alleges foul play, rejects outcome

The Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for the Borno Central Senatorial District, Mallam Kaka Bolori, has rejected the result of the by-election held on Saturday, claiming it was cooked up to achieve a predetermined mindset.

The result of the by-election released by the Independent National Electoral Commission early on Sunday had declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Baba Garbai, as the winner with 120,639 votes, leaving Kaka in the second position with 32,346 votes.

But Kaka told Vanguard in a telephone interview on Sunday that he was unhappy with the way the umpire, INEC and other agencies saddled with the conduct of the poll, handled the exercise.

According to him, the result did not reflect the true yearning of the electorate but sexed up by the organizers to give
victory to his opponent.
Kaka accused INEC of conniving with the security agencies to cheat during the vote in order to deliver victory to his opponents.

The candidate alleged that apart from the police intimidating and detaining his supporters and agents, many INEC personnel voted for his opponents in many centres.

Kaka said:” We are not happy with the outcome of the election because it was prearranged to fit a mindset. We are going to show the video of what actually transpired during the voting.

“We doubt very much if INEC will be able to conduct a free and fair election in Kogi and Bayelsa states if they cannot conduct a credible by-election in Borno State,” Kaka said.
He vowed to challenge the outcome of the election to a logical conclusion to prove his claim.
