www.odogwublog.com reports that Anambra State House of Assembly yesterday unanimously approved the contentious loan of 10 Billion Naira for Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State.
This was following the motion to that effect moved by Member representing Anambra East, Hon.Victor Jideofor, the House gave its approval.
The loan had been a subject of disagreement between Obiano and some stakeholders in Anambra who argued on the need for Obiano to account for 75 billion Naira his predecessor left for him.
This was following Obiano's alleged secret meeting with members of Anambra State House of Assembly, where Obiano, seeking to convince the House, told them that he only inherited 9 Billion from Obi.
The war of words degenerated that former Governor Peter Obi’s media aide Valentine Obienyem and teams of Governor Willie Obiano’s team led by the Secretary to the state Government (SSG) Prof Chukwudobelu Solo were defending each other over the N75 Billion left. They even went to Channels television.
In a letter read on the floor of the House, Obiano said he needed the loan to complete ongoing capital projects in the State and called for the support of the House even as he promised that he would set up a Committee to ensure judicious utilization of the loan.
None of the members of the House agreed to make comments on the matter but one of them who do not want his name mentioned said the House owed Obiano total allegiance for single handedly sponsoring their elections.
Speaking on the matter, Barr. Jeomartin Uzodike said it was not about Obiano, but about the future of the State and expressed regrets that Government of Obiano is borrowing money to finance flyover and roads and not for investment that would pay itself back. He asked if he would collect tolls on those roads to repay the loan.
Uzodike said that a Government that squandered 75 Billion Naira, including the interest of 8 billion Naira generated by Obi's investment on foreign bonds would squander 10 billion Naira in days.
His words: "His predecessor left so much money and investment for him, rather than tell us what he has added to the investment, in spite of 1 billion Naira increase in IGR, he is borrowing money. I understand that this is the beginning of planned massive borrowing", Uzodike said regretfully.
