When Obiano gives N25 Million to 25 prison inmates he granted amnesty

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, yesterday, granted amnesty to 25 inmates drawn from Awka, Onitsha and Aguata prisons in the state, just as he announced that government had approved N1 million for each to rehabilitate them.
Those from Awka prisons are Obumneme Okafor, Chibike Nwogwu, Daniel Philemon, Ude Chidiebere, and Innocent Okeke who was sentenced to death, but was commuted to life imprisonment.
In Aguata, the six inmates who benefited from the gesture included Chinedu Onyebuchi, Okwudili Offor, Emmanuel Enemchukwu, Nwafor Reuben, Camilus Ikensor and Cyril Ogufuba. The list of the 14 inmates from Onitsha prison was not made available as at press time.
Speaking on the occasion, the governor also said government would give them training in the state vocational skill acquisition centre after which they would be given N1m as a life-line to enable them to be self-employed and contribute meaningfully to the society.
He charged them to be of good behaviour and join hands with government in their little way to move the state forward.
The Attorney General of the state, Mr. Chude Nnadi, while speaking earlier, said the inmates were qualified for the amnesty because some of them had only three months left in prison.
The Comptroller of Prisons in the state assured the governor that the inmates had been transformed properly and would not relapse into the crime that took them to the prisons.
