STUDENTS of the University of Lagos had a fun filled time recently, when the Unilever/MultiChoic e Nigeria, We Care Campaign touched down at the institution’s sport centre.
For the hours the programme lasted, the students who made it to the venue were entertained with jokes, music and dances. Aside this, they were offered opportunities to go on stage for those who had the courage to exhibit their talents during the mini dance and singing competition.
However, it was not just about entertainment as there was a career talk to get the students chart a better career path. Each student got a We Care pack that contained Unilever products, meant to promote better personal hygiene.
Speaking on the campaign, Brand Manager, Rexima, Unilever, Mrs. Shadiat Shoyombo, said the project was to provide avenue for students to express themselves, fuel their passion towards achievable goals, as well as improve their health, wellbeing and educational performances.
She said the campaign had been launched in 16 campuses across Nigeria, with the University of Lagos being the 17th.
“We realised many youth are talented and they needed assistance to be able to achieve their aim, goal and aspirations. Our aim is to give the youth platform where they can utilise their potential, where they can be useful in terms of their interest, career wise, entertainment and comedy. We are going to all tertiary institutions such as universities, polytechnics and colleges in order to tell them that we care.”
A Sales Supervisor with MultiChoice, Nigeria, Mr. Oluwaseun King, commenting on the campaign, said the initiative is meant to empower the youth positively.
He said the project hopes to prepare them for the labour market, as most students after graduation seek employment instead of being job creators.
“We noticed that and introduced canvasser scheme where they can learn, make gains for themselves through selling our products on the social media. The aim is to make them financially stable and bring out the creativity in them,” he said.
