T. A Orji may soon lose his seat as Abia Group moves to recall him

The continued stay in office of former Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji as the senator representing the people of Abia Central may be under threat soon. This is because an Abia Central group, Concerned Constituents of Abia Central Senatorial Zone disclosed to odogwuemekaodogwu.com that they have commenced a process that would ensure his (T. A Orji’s) recall from the senate.

Recall that Senator Orji just won a case instituted against him at the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in the state by candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for Abia Central Senatorial District, Chief Ahamdi Emmanuel Nweke challenging the declaration of Orji as winner of the March 28 poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The group who disclosed that they have commenced collection of signatures to recall Orji less than five-months the former Abia governor was elected into the Senate said that they were doing so over what they described as poor quality representation of the zone by him.

Addressing journalists at the end of the group’s in Umuahia, the Leader of the group, Gabriel Ohajuruka Jnr, said majority of Abia Central constituents were unhappy that their representatives was yet to present the problems facing the zone at the floor of the Senate like other colleagues but has become “a mere bench warmer”.

They also accused Orji of spending more time sleeping at the floor of the Senate than attending to matters affecting the interest of his zone.

According to Ohajuruka, as at the time of the press briefing, they have collected about 18,435 signatures of voters from the zone, adding that the move has been garnering popular support from the six council areas of the zone.

“We are disappointed that our Senator, Chief Theodore Orji despite being a former governor, is yet to bring attention to the problems of Abia central zone to the floor of the Senate. Senator Orji has never cared to address his constituents since he was elected; at least to inform them about his programmes and areas of legislative interest. He has no motion or bill attached to his name neither is his stand on some of the burning issues affecting the nation known. We are making effort to recall him because his continued stay at the Senate would be against the interest of the zone.”

They denied being sponsored by Orji’s political opponents, but added that they have concluded plans to write to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to effect the recall of the Senator.

“At the end of the collection of signatures, we will embark on a peaceful march around Umuahia before we proceed to the National Assembly and INEC headquarters in Abuja,” the group said.
