SURE-P scam

Lagos—Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olabode George has described the allegation of his involvement in a N4.947 billion scam as cruel, callous and outlandish mischief making.
Bode George and some Nigerians were accused of embezzlement to the tune of N4.947billion from 51,000 jobless Nigerians recruited as Federal Task Force officers for the protection of Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment Programme, SURE-P/Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA projects in Nigeria.
The aggrieved staff had petitioned the House of Representatives via the Chairman, House Adhoc Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Rep Sani Zoro that the PDP chieftains  made them to purchase the Federal Task Force forms, which were supposed to be free, for  N30,000 each despite their impoverished situation, only to be employed, used and abandoned.
Bode George’s Political Adviser, Mr Uthman Shodipe, who read a speech, said the publication linking him to the scam is a “wild thrashing in the wind, a desperate grasping for scapegoats.”
George said he did not “authorise, employ or mobilise anyone as SURE-P workers, never at any particular time encouraged anyone to levy anybody or extort any party member under the guise of dubious employment scheme.”
Dissociating himself from the aggrieved persons, he called on anti-corruption agencies to investigate the matter and bring the culprits to book.
