THE Army headquarters yesterday said its troops on counter-insurgency operation in Borno State have uncovered another fuel dump belonging to members of the Boko Haram terrorists group.
The fuel dump, located at Abbaganaram, in Maiduguri city, was uncovered following intelligence report by a concerned but unidentified citizen in the state.
Items recovered from the site include 11 drums of AGO, one empty drum, 192 of 25 litres jerrycans, (out of which 70 were loaded with AGO, PMS and DPK), a Toyota bus and one Peugeot car, one motorcycle and one air conditioner.
Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman, who made the discovery known yesterday in a statement, said one Musa Abba, was arrested during the operation on the fuel dump which was hitherto used by the insurgents to stockpile petroleum, oil and lubricants for onward movement to their camps at Sambisa forest.
Col. Usman, while noting that the discovery may not be
unconnected to continuous military appeal to the public for cooperation to end the terrorism, said: “It is gratifying to note that such a call is being heeded by overwhelming majority of people as exemplified by the courageous and patriot- ic efforts of the good citizens who exposed this fuel dump in their midst.”
He called on residents to see the fight against Boko Haram as collective responsibility even as he assured that the military would do all in its power to wipe out insurgency from the country.
