Police arrest two over alleged assault and conspiracy against vice principal

THE Police in Enugu on Wednesday said it has arrested two persons in connection with attempts on the life of a secondary school Vice Principal, Mr Kenneth Jideofor.
A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer in Enugu, Ebere Amaraizu said that the victim was rescued while being lynched by some natives over alleged stealing of property belonging to Government
Girls Secondary School, Aguobu Owa, Ezeagu Council, Enugu State.
According to Amaraizu, the embattled Vice Principal was a victim of conspiracy. He stated that the Principal of the school, one Rose Igwebuike had conspired with some persons to accuse him of stealing the school’s property leading to his swearing before a shrine.
He said: “Kenneth Jideofor, the vice principal of Government Girls Secondary school Aguobu Owa in Ezeagu Local Council of Enugu State, was allegedly taken to a shrine at Ozom Aguobu Owa where he was made to take an oath. He was later brought to the market square at Afor Ugwu where he was allegedly stripped and thereafter beaten to stupor and abandoned before he was rescued through the assistance of a good Nigerian who was passing towards the direction he was lying.”
Amaraizu continued: “The incident happened on October 6, 2015 at about 5:00pm. The principal of the school, one Rose Igwebuike, had allegedly conspired with some members of the cchool’s Parents Teachers Association (PTA) committee as well as some school security men and took hold of the victim on the ground that he allegedly stole some school property and took him to the shrine to swear an oath and thereafter stripped him naked at the market square where he was given the beating of his life.”
He said that two persons have been arrested in connection with the incident, adding that investigations have commenced in full scale.
Meanwhile, the public, particularly commercial drivers have been advised to be security conscious as it relates to collection of gift items like fruit juice amongst others from passengers, saying it might have been drugged.
Police say the warning arose out of a recent incident where a passenger offered a fruit juice drink with a meat- pie believed to have been drugged to a driver, who after consuming it, became unconscious. The police said the passenger thereafter escaped with the vehicle.
