Official: Liverpool signs new Manager

Liverpool have confirmed the appointment of Jurgen Klopp as their new manager.

The German coach - who has been out of work since leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season - has signed a three-year deal at Anfield with the option of an extra year.

Klopp becomes Liverpool 's first ever German manager, and only the second in Premier League history.

The club will unveil Klopp at a press conference at 10am on Friday morning, after he flew in from Dortmund earlier this afternoon to finalise the move.

In a statement on their official website, the club confirmed that Klopp has become the 20th manager in Reds history.

"Liverpool Football Club are delighted to announce Jürgen Klopp has been appointed as the club's new manager," it reads.

"The German coach has signed a deal to take the helm at the Reds and will be presented at a press conference at Anfield on Friday morning."

It took Liverpool less than a week to replace Brendan Rodgers, who was sacked following the 1-1 draw with Everton in Sunday's Merseyside derby.

His 48-year-old successor comes with considerably more experience, having won the Bundesliga twice as well as the DFB Pokal and DFL Supercup.

Klopp also guided Dortmund to the Champions League final in 2012/13, where his side were beaten by Bayern Munich.

Joachim Low, a World Cup winner for Germany last summer, hailed Klopp and the Reds as a good fit.

“I think there are strong parallels between Dortmund and Liverpool with the passion and size of their support,” said Low.

“I think it is a good fit.

“I’m not party to the negotiations between Liverpool and Mr Klopp, so I don’t know how they are progressing, but if an agreement can be reached it will be good for both.

“Mr Klopp, if you look back, was fantastically successful, exceptionally successful at Dortmund. He unleashed a lot of emotion in Dortmund supporters and he can do the same for Liverpool.”

Mats Hummels, who played under Klopp for Borussia Dortmund, was also full of praise.

“There is no doubt he is a fantastic coach, a great coach,” said Hummels.

“When people put their minds to the question about what he is going to do post Dortmund, then clubs like Liverpool had to enter the frame.

“He lives, breaths and thinks football day after day. He is a fantastic addition to any side and I will certainly keep my fingers crossed for the next step in his career.”
