NUJ Anambra decides Chairman on November 13th, 2015
There are three contenders now to the position of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra state Council. The election is slated for November 13th, and the campaign is hot.
The first contender for the position is Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu of correspondents Chapel, Comrade Emma Ifesinachi of the State Information Chapel and Comrade Abuchi Nwozor of the ABS Chapel ,as at the time of going to the Press we cannot tell if he was affected by the sacking of 178 STAFF of ABS by Governor Willie Obiano.
Of the three Comrade Odogwu attracted the benefactor building the NUJ Press center for the Union in the person of Mr Godwin Ezeemo but the other two have not done anything for the Union.Emeka Odogwu’s only crime among his members of 45 in Correspondent’s Chapel is that he is still a very young man. They had nothing again against him. He is vibrant and daring and would make the best NUJ chairman out of the pack. Odogwu who is currently pursuing his DOCTORATE degree at NNAMDI AZIKIWE UNIVERSITY AWKA , has the contact, the vision, the mission, the qualification and urbane needed to lift the Union from the comatose position it is now but I am sure some of his members in correspondents’ chapel will work against him. I know them one by one but let me spare name calling. He does not miss the arrow on target and I witnessed it when our path crossed in line of work on many occassions.
He may have challenge of resources/FINANCE to prosecute his election now having being out of paid job for one year but yet still walks head tall by starting his own business against all odds before getting into the latest Newpaper in town- Authority newspaper.
He has the charisma and clout though very young.
Ifesinachi is fond of contesting election and never participated in the activities of the Union. For three times he contested but whenever he lost , he would never attend the Union activities again until next election according to our Awka Correspondent. He would have been supported by other members of the 15 member chapels that constitute NUJ in Anambra state but his retirement from service is next year. He is not alone retiring next year and if I should say, NUJ should be mindful of who they are electing as the number one trade union in the state though they are now number zero. He is counting on the population of his members 165 members as Information officers to win the election. He has the support of outgoing chairman.
For Abuchi Nwozor, I don’t know much about him rather than he does Igbo programmes at ABS and market products for Tonimas and others. He speaks Igbo well that i can guarantee.
He was Chairman of NUJ ABS chapel and I heard he never convened a meeting even for one day. I don’t know how truthful that is? But according to the campaign he flagged off Last week, and people who witnessed it, there is a long journey to make if he emerges as he may be worse than the incumbent Henry Nwasike. He refused to step down for the best candidate Emeka Arinze from his chapel and Arinze withdrew his aspiration , he insisted he never stepped down for anybody. Arinze may go for zonal election.
Late Ifeoma Anumba would have made the best chairman of NUJ and Odogwu secretary but God knows the best. But since the election is a must for 13th unless something happens and the union changes it, of the three Odogwu is the bomb as far as my assessment is concerned. I am not holding brief for anybody and i makes no apology for my assessment .
