INSECURITY: Bornu stops women’s movement in Maiduguri

Authorities in Maiduguri, Borno state capital have stopped movement of women in Sajeri around Gommari area of Maiduguri following discovery of a bomb in a mosque in the area.

The bomb was discovered Sunday afternoon as residents were getting ready to observe zuhr prayer. Residents quickly alerted the police bomb squad about the discovery of the explosive device.
The police succeeded in safely detonating the bomb with a loud sound that shook parts of the city this evening.
After the bomb was sucessfuly detonated, the law banning the movement of women in the area was promulgated. The law also forbids men from moving in the area without a ‘guide’.
The area has recently come suicide attacks by Boko Haram fighters disguising as women.
