Bauchi state government on Friday constituted a six-member Petroleum Product Monitoring Committee as part of efforts to address the lingering problem of scarcity of petroleum products in the state.

The setting up of the committee is contained in a statement, signed by Permanent Secretary (Political Affairs), Malam Mahmoud Garba,
It said the committee was to monitor the procurement, distribution and sales of petroleum products in the state, as well as ensure that there was no artificial scarcity.

The committee had also been saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that the products were sold at official pump price and prevent the dispensing of the products to individuals in Jeri cans and gallons.

The committee is to be chaired by Capt. M.A.Ningi, while Alhaji Hassan Yelwa, a Deputy Director in the State Emergency Management Agency, will serve as Secretary.

Others are the representatives of the State Security Service, Police, Department of Petroleum Resources and Ministry of Commerce.

The past one week, petroleum products had become scarce in the state, leading to the re-emergence of long queues in petrol filling stations.

This week, the state governor, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar and his deputy, Malam Nuhu Gidado, had to pay surprise visit to some stations, where they discovered sharp practices.
