EFCC arrest former Kebbi state governor

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has arrested former governor of Kebbi State, Saidu Dakingari for interrogation on some allegations pertaining to his tenure in the state.
Information as regards the details of the allegations are scanty. Spokesman to the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren confirmed to The Guardian that the former governor was invited for questioning but declined to give details. “I am not in the office at the moment and I can’t tell whether he is still being interrogated but he was invited by the EFCC for interrogation concerning his tenure. I do not have the details of the charges”, he said.

However, online reports are suggesting that Dakingari was invited on some allegation of money laundering amounting to N3.8 billion but this is yet to be substantiated by the EFCC.
It would however, be recalled that Dakingari’s wife, and daughter to the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Zainab was in July, invited by the EFCC for questioning for allegedly laundering N2 billion. She was invited at the same time as wife of serving Senate President, Toyin Saraki. While Saraki’s report to the EFCC was widely reported in the media, it is yet to be clear whether Zainab has honoured EFCC’s invitation. The arrest of her husband on Monday, may not be unconnected with the earlier invitation extended to Zainab.
