THE Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Dan Orbih, Tuesday morning escaped death along the notorious Ewu axis of the Benin-Okenne-Lokoja Highway following a multiple accident involving his convoy and an articulated vehicle. He was said to be travelling in a convoy when the truck rammed into them and pushed them off the road into a gully beside the road.
The driver of the truck was said to have died in the accident while five other persons including a senior judicial officer in the state in Orbih’s convoy were injured and currently receiving treatment at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.
Orbih who confirmed the incident on phone said: “Yes, it is true; it was God’s mercy that saved us from the accident. I am going to Irrua Specialist Hospital to see those injured. It happened at Ewu hill and my vehicle and others were involved. I think the truck driver lost his break and hit our vehicles. The truck driver died and five persons were injured, they are receiving treatment now. We were in a convoy and we were going to my village.”
It would be recalled that a former chairman of the party in the state, who incidentally was Orbih’s predecessor, Samson Ekhabafe, his son, driver and police orderly died in an accident around the same area few years ago.
