Economics Department Unizik holds 3rd Annual Lecture as Obiano set to improve social orientation of youth

www.odogwublog.com reports that Governor Willie Obiano has called for collective efforts towards serious social re-orientation of the Youth, in line with his Security mantra.
Governor Obiano made the call at the Third Annual Lecture, and Honours Award of the Economics Department of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

The lecture had the theme “National Security and Nigerian Economy in the 21st Century” and it was geared towards expanding the frontiers of knowledge, necessary to improve the material and general well being of Nigerians and Anambra State in particular, and had experienced technocrats, political stalwarts and elder statesmen in attendance. Governor Obiano, represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke, stressed the need for improved value system as a way of tackling insecurity, pointing out that it behooves parents and other stakeholders in the society to always present themselves as role models.

While noting the key role which security plays in the present administration’s development agenda, Governor Obiano added that as a result of devoted efforts, crime has been drastically reduced and kidnapping eradicated.
Speaking, the Chairman on the occasion and former governor of Anambra State, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, said that the present administration has made several efforts towards eradicating criminality in the State, which is no longer seen in negative light.
Delivering a lecture, a former Minister of Finance, Dr Chu Okongwu, recalled that the revenues from oil palm, cocoa and groundnuts formed the greater part of the government revenue which funded the Universities and other capital developmental programmes, expressing optimism that they can be reestablished with the successful rebuilding of the society, firmly re-establishing social peace, social cooperation, a fair and just society.
Earlier, the Keynote speaker, Professor Adams Adegoke, noted that factors such as harsh business environment have undermined the Country's development, saying that its huge potentials are largely untapped while local entrepreneurship is weak.
The lecture featured presentation of plaques by the institution to Governor Obiano and his deputy.
