Disaster looms in Anambra as commuters traveling to Enugu state and other parts of the southeast states through Anambra may face difficult situation as the flyover bridge at Nkpor junction along Onitsha-Enugu federal highway is on the verge of collapse following erosion insurgence in the area .

The service lane of the flyover bridge is completely cut off by erosion affecting totally the first carriage lane of vehicles coming from Enugu state . The aforesaid situation calls for a state of emergency to be declared so as to preclude motorists from plying the flyover bridge .

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State upon visit to the erosion site yesterday in the company of the sector commander of the FRSC in Anmbra Mr.Sunday Ajayi , state commissioner of police Mr . Hosea Karma and other government functionaries , said that the road is a federal project noting that a 25 billion naira project done previously for the federal government by the Anambra State Government has not been remitted to the state coffers .To this end , Obiano maintained that he would only apply palliative measures on the road pending the intervention of the federal government on the impending disaster .

The State Governor also directed a road construction company known as Infrastructure Development Company ( IDC ) to see what it can do about the road while waiting for the federal government to do the rest . He therefore urged the people to be patient with the situation as it would be resolved shortly .

Meanwhile sector commander of the Federal Roadsafety Commission in Anambra Mr.Sunday Ajayi appealed to motorists to apply caution in the area and obey traffic order to divert their vehicles through Nkpor new parts to avoid fatalities .
