Hon. Uzo Azubuike, EziUche Ubani’s, others commissioner
nominations suffer set back as youths protests their inclusion
The chances of the former lawmaker that represented Aba
North and South Federal Constituency in the 7th Assembly, Hon. Uzo
Azubike and his counterpart from Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency,
Hon. Eziuche Ubani to be appointed Commissioners in Abia State may have suffered
a huge blow following the recent protest by youths from the two Local
Governments.
odogwu emeka odogwu.com gathered that a group of youths from
Aba North Local Government Area under the umbrella Nzuko Ndi Nwe Ala (Indigenous
People of Aba North) had on Monday protested the inclusion of Hon. Uzo Azubuike
on the list of yet to be confirmed commissioners sent to the Abia State House
of Assembly by the Governor of the State Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.
According to information reaching us the youths said that
they were protesting against the nomination of Hon. Azubuike because he is not
from Aba North and therefore should not be nominated a commissioner for Aba
North slot.
They also said that Hon. Azubuike having served at the state
and federal level from 1999 till date should also make way for youths with
fresh ideas and talents to be appointed into government, pointing out that
recycling old politicians who have run dry of ideas should not be the case of
Abia State, even as they alleged that it was a way the governor of the state
Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu was paying back his “Political godfathers” at the detriment of
the state.
It was the same in Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo federal
constituency as youths of the area were said to be angry over the nomination of
the immediate past legislature of the zone whom they said was nominated for
using his media station (Magic Fm, Aba) as a platform to sell Governor Ikpeazu’s
candidature to the people of the state and the country.
A source within the Obingwa area disclosed that though the
choice for Ubani as a commissioner in the state was not surprising to them,
they however questioned the decision of the Abia State Governor to also
nominate Chief Henry Ikoh, (owner of Harmony foam), Chief Charles Ogbonna,
former Chief of Staff to the immediate past Governor Senator T. A Orji and
among others as commissioner nominees.
The youths said that they were going to do everything
possible to ensure that they scuttle the decision of the Abia State Governor to
appoint Hon. Azubuike and Hon. Eziuche Ubani’s Commissioners in the state and
to put an end the era of recycling people that have run out of developmental
ideas.
