www.odogwublog.com reports that Anambra state police command yesterday announced it has arrested forty three members of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign state of Biafra (MASSOB) and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Commissioner of Police Anambra state , Hassan Karma announced this when the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 9 Umuahia AIG , Akila Usman Gwary paid a working visit to Anambra state.
Karma said the forty-three persons would be charged , insisting that no group threatening the peace and unity of Nigeria should be tolerated and warned the public to desist from identifying with the groups like MASSOB and IPOB.
The command also paraded a fake police man ASP Abdul .S Makong arrested at Isiagu while trying to obtain money fraudulently from the Traditional ruler of Isiagu and Umuawulu to assist them give positions to their community members in the ongoing police recruitment.
The suspect, Abdul from Taraba State while responding to questions from Journalists said that he was lured into the crime by a friend.
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, karma said that the command through intelligence-led policing, community partnership and collaboration with other security agencies with rapid deployment of and response mechanism to emergency and distress calls have all combined in the stemming the tide of criminality in the state.
According to Karma; “I boldly state that incidences of kidnap and other violent crimes have been contained to the barest minimum.
“Touting and illegal extortion by unregistered organizations are almost becoming a thing of the past, our SARS has been repositioned, thus, their operational strategy has become more proactive, rather than the reactive style.
“The newly created Anti cult Unit has effectively put in check the activities of cultists in the state, our highways are safer through the joint efforts of Operation Kpochapu and IGP’s safer highway motorized patrols”.
The AIG Usman Gwary had earlier called for a better working relationship between the police and members of the public insisting that community policing has come to stay.
He warned against insubordination among officers and rank and file of the Nigerian police as police is known for discipline and order.
The Assistant Inspector General of police (AIG) in charge of zone 9, Umuahia, Akila Usman Gwary further reiterated the resolve of the police force to fight any group that may want to usurp the peace that is prevalent in Aambra State and the entire South East.
He said that the force will run the whole mile to maintain the peace that is in place in the South East zone.
In his words: “We cannot fold our hands and watch groups like MASSOB usurp the peace we are enjoying. We won’t allow anything that will tamper with the peace we have gotten and are enjoying in the South East”.
Gwary called on District Police Officers (DPO) to adopt the strategy of periodic meetings in the communities they are posted to serve adding that in that way, they will gather information and ideas while the community members are given the opportunity to be part of the management of their security.
“The work of policing is for everyone, not just the CP, DPO, or the police alone. Always organize search meetings but always do it with the knowledge of the CP. Always involve the community in your policing duties”, the AIG said.
The AIG who was a former Commissioner of Police of Anambra State noted that the security management of police administration that will help police in carrying out their work includes robust highway patrol, checking of systems at the neighboring boundaries and upgrading of security facilities.
He however hailed the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano for his fatherly disposition, magnanimity and immeasurable support to the police adding that his support has been the impetus that propelled the achievements of the police in the state.
The Commissioner used the occasion to parade a police ASP impersonator on the 2nd of Sept, 2015 saying that the suspect who was arrested in 2010 for same crime served some time in the prison and was only released in April this year.
