A 60-yr-old woman and mother of seven, has been nabbed by the police in Calabar, Cross River State, for allegedly harboring criminals, including human traffickers, kidnappers and commercial sex workers.
The culprit, Offiong Umoh, who claimed to be a Deaconess of the Apostolic Church, New Obutong Assembly in Calabar, operates her business at the popular Flour Mill Junction in Calabar Municipality.
Our correspondent understands that she specializes in selling young girls, who are into prostitution to men in addition to selling Indian hemps, cocaine and illicit drinks.
Reports have it that when security officials visited Peace Garden Hotel, where Madam operates her illegal business, a small hall with Apostolic calendars and almanacs were discovered.
There were also small shops where she also sells hot drinks, condoms and other sexual materials.
Speaking with Newsmen, Umoh, admitted that she owns the house-turned brothel and hideout for criminals and that as a Deaconess in the Church, she was also keeping women fellowship money amounting to N20,000 with her.
She was, however, arrested with the money in her hands by the police, who were led by the Cross River Special Adviser to Governor Ayade on security matters, Mr. Jude Ngaji.
Ngaji ,our correspondent reports, had earlier raided the hotels for close to five hours with operation “Scolombo”, a security outfit and the Akim Area Police Command, where over 50 young girls and about 58 men who were alleged to be criminals were arrested.
He further said that the state government has shut down three hotels that harbour commercial sex workers, criminals and perpetrators of criminal activities at No 1, Old Odukpani Road.
