UNIJOS to Honour Danjuma, other

                                                                     
Vice Chancellor, University of Jos,  Hayward Babale Mafuyai, has said  that the institution will  honour the  former Chief of Army Staff, Gen Theopilus  Danjuma with a degree,as part of activities to mark her 40 years anniversary .

Prof Mafuyai disclosed this to journalists at a media briefing held at the senate chambers of the university. He said in the past 40 years, the university has achieved a lot in so many areas.
“This is a period of celebration for our great university. For those who have followed the fortunes of this great  university, this institution is taking necessary steps towards becoming a world class research intensive institution and the university has a track record of consistently achieving high standards in teaching and learning.”
According to him,University of Jos  began as a campus of the University of Ibadan in November , 1971, from a modest four faculties of 700 students to over 29,403 full, part time and post graduate students, with 12 faculties, 78 academic programmes  across 86 academic departments.
 
The university alumni has not been left out in achieving success.  Dr john Agwunobi (medicine) was the first African to serve in the US cabinet, Helon Habila won the Caine prize and commonwealth literature prize, katung  Aduwak ,for winning Big Brother Nigeria and Kevin Pam,Big Brother Africa, among others.

He said in the 40 years of the university's existence, it has produced over 150,000 students from its regular and part time programs, and in its efforts to achieve more and enhance its reputation nationally, internationally , it has developed  new programs relevant  to the needs of our communities and the country at large through actuarial science, physical and health education, and  our new faculties of veterinary medicine and agriculture has commenced to produce what would ensure food production.
As part of activities marking the institutions 40 years anniversary ,several activities have been lined up with jumat prayers, combined thanksgiving, UNIJOS @ 40 and investiture of new chancellor /convocation for masters, pH.D, and honourary degrees.
