Traditional ruler, 30 others killed in fresh Taraba attacks

A traditional ruler, Zaki Joseph Manger, who hails from Ibi in Taraba State was killed along with some 30 other Tiv people even as the state government set up a taskforce for the returning Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.
The latest killings was confirmed by President, Tiv Cultural and Social Association, Mr. James Nungwa, TCSA, who disclosed that scores of similar killings had occurred along with the destruction of crops and houses of the returnees by suspected herdsmen.
In a statement made available to newsmen, the organisation as expressed concerns over the killings in the state and described it as a deliberate attempt to thwart the peace process of the Darius Ishaku-led administration.
According to the statement, more than 15 people were killed in Donga local government while about 18 others were killed in Ibi Local Government Area of the state.
Further, it was disclosed that suspected herdsmen raped four women in their houses at Ananum while many others were severely wounded by the attackers.
“Four women around Ananum were raped in their houses by suspected Fulani armed men.
In their usual destructive tendencies, they destroyed over 300 hectares of farms and burnt 100 reconstructed houses of the returnees,” it said.
The association condemned in strong terms, “the barbaric act being perpetrated by these unpatriotic and retrogressive elements” and called on well meaning Tarabans and security operatives to ensure that justice was done to all those affected by the crisis.
