…Low key Sallah for Abuja residents

Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, yesterday submitted that all acts of insurgency are against Islamic and its tenets. The Sultan spoke in Sokoto during his Sallah message to Muslims in the country.
He, however, admitted achievements in the fight against insurgency in the north east.
“We must commend various security agencies in the country and the state for sustained efforts in taming the menace of insurgency and other related crimes in the nation…”
Meanwhile, residents of Abuja had a low-key Eid Mubarak celebration. Major roads in the city which would be blocked by heavy vehicles were shortly deserted as many had immediately after prayers, returned to their homes, leaving the roads empty.
Suburbs, including Karu, Nyanya and Jikowoyi areas of Abuja and Mararaba, and even Masaka in neighboring Nasarawa State were devoid of the usual Sallah celebrations.
Some of the Muslim faithfuls who spoke, lamented that this was the first time Muslims would be celebrating sallah without money.
“There is no money anywhere. Government did not pay us. Many people are still being owed salaries. Most families could not afford even rams or rice to eat”, Usman Gishiri said.
