Tension as Son stabs 74-yr-old father to death, removes heart

                                                    
Nelson Oamen, a middle aged man, over the weekend, threw the Abesan Estate, Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos State, into turmoil after he stabbed his 74-year-old father, identified as Ehimeren, to death during a family squabble, and thereafter, removed the heart of the septuagenarian, before escaping.

According to reports, Oamen, a native of Edo State, sneaked into his father's apartment at Block 272, on Friday, September 18, 2015, ans committed the gruesome act before fleeing.

It was gathered that the old man was a retiree who had lived in the estate for over 15 year and had been battling with stroke for several years, hardly going out of his house and that the son who is suspected to be a drug addict, had often threatened to kill his father anytime they had an issue.

On the day of the incident, the younger man had gone to the apartment at about 2pm where he demanded for an unspecified amount of money and his father's refusal led to a quarrel and he murdered the old man with a kitchen knife, removed the heart, covered up the body with a blanket and calmly sneaked out of the house.

It was his younger sister who came to the house few minutes later and found traces of blood in the sitting room, traced the blood to discover her father's corpse and raised the alarm.

Another elder sister who had come to visit from her base in Abeokuta, Ogun State, narrated that Nelson had physically attacked the father in the past and had often vowed to kill him.

“For about five years now, dad had been nursing a stroke, and he could not work again. So, he used to stay at home. Nelson did not have a stable location. He just came to the area on Friday.

I was told that he came in through the window before committing the act. His younger sister who has a shop in the area, came in a few minutes later to change her clothes, and first observed bloodstains in the sitting room.

She then traced the bloodstains to daddy’s room, and found out that he had been killed. We have not seen any sign of Nelson since then,” she said

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident and said the police were on the trail of the culprit and he would soon be arrested.

Cases of sons killing their fathers has been on the increase as late last year, a young man caused chaos in the sleepy community of Uduku Ettam Okpitumo, in Ikwo local government area of Ebonyi State, John Itumo, had allegedly murdered his father because he considered the man to be too old to continue living.

Even in the western world, such cases have been recorded as well, as it was in the case of 44-year-old Kyle Webb, who killed his 74-year-old father, Franklin Webb, in their home in Grandview, Missouri, USA, to prove how 'big and bad he was.'
