Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Akwa Ibom State command, has appealed to hotels’ proprietors in the state to supply weekly returns of lodgers for effective monitoring of aliens movement in the state.

The State Comptroller of NIS,  Ajibola Bayeroju, made the appeal in Uyo recently in his maiden meeting with owners of hotels and guest houses in the state.

Bayeroju explained that under immigration laws, the hoteliers were required to make weekly returns of lodgers to the service and also allow immigration officers access to their registers.

“This checking is not aimed at witch-hunting any of you but to help us coordinate and monitor movements of persons”

He said that in view of the current security challenges in the country, the NIS expected the hoteliers to supply unbiased and constant returns for effective surveillance, investigation and monitoring.

The NIS boss informed the hotels proprietors that his establishment has the statutory responsibility to control entry and departure of persons, issuance of travel documents as well as monitoring and control of foreigners’ activities.

Others, he said, include inspection of companies and hotels administration of returns and expatriate quota regime among other functions.

Responding, the chairman of Akwa Ibom Hotels Proprietors Association, Mr. Aniefiok Alexander, lauded the immigration boss for the interaction, which he described as timely.

Alexander promised that his members would comply with the directives from the immigration service.

He described the meeting as informative and very useful in view of the current security challenges in the country.
