President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to appoint ministers before the end of September 2015 but he doesn’t seem too excited about the decision.
Buhari gave a hint of this during an interview with French television station, France 24 on Wednesday, September 16, 2015.
“I said we will have a cabinet by the end of the month. Time flies. End of the month is coming too quickly for my liking,” Buhari said.
“I will stick with the September deadline. I will send the names to the National Assembly,” he added.
The president also described ministers as “noisemakers” adding that the real work of administration is usually done by technocrats.
“The ministers are there just to make a lot of noise just like politicians who make a lot of noise but the work is being done by technocrats. They are there and they provide the continuity,” Buhari said.
The president had earlier expressed surprise at Nigerians’ anxiety to have ministers after he was repeatedly criticized for his delay in appointing a cabinet.
