State chairmen of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the North-east have begun submission of names of party stalwarts aspiring to run for the party’s national chairmanship position, Daily Trust learnt yesterday.
It was gathered authoritatively that a committee was recently set up to collect the number of aspirants and map up modalities aimed at ensuring that the region produced a credible person acceptable to the national leadership of the party to fill in the national chairmanship position vacated by Adamu Mu’azu considering that his tenure was still alive when he threw in the towel on May 20.
A reliable source familiar with the situation told Daily Trust that the name of former minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Bala Mohammed from Bauchi State has been submitted to the PDP zonal office for consideration.
He also said the names of former senator Paul Wampana and political adviser to former president Goodluck Jonathan, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak from Adamawa State have so far been submitted.
The source said while three names have been submitted by the Bauchi and Adamawa states chapters of the PDP for consideration, more names were expected to trickle in from the two states that make up the zone.
He added that Taraba, Yobe, Borno and Gombe States are also expected to produce the names of aspirants soon to be able to hasten up the process and arrive at a position.
The source however said, a politician from Yobe (name with-held) allegedly submitted his name without approval from the state chapter of the party, creating confusion in the process.
