www.odogwublog.com reports that Onitsha, Anambra state at the weekend stood still for eleven high performing students who stood out during an examination at the end holidays extramural classes sponsored by Hon. Patrick Aniunoh, member representing Onitsha South Constituency I in the Anambra State House of Assembly.
The holiday’s extramural classes were the first of its kind in Onitsha South, even as Hon Aniunoh has promised to make it a continuous programme so that many people would benefit.
According to Hon Aniunoh , he awarded scholarships to the students as part of his empowerment for youths in his constituency and reiterated the need to sponsor brilliant students who their parents cannot take care of their tuition to certain levels in education.
The eleven beneficiaries of Hon. Patrick Aniunoh Scholarship programme were three persons each for Junior and Senior Secondary School Categories and 2 Persons each for the Best in English Language and Best in Mathematics Categories.
Ezeamama Chideraa of Masters Vessel Anglican Seminary Osumenyi was chosen as the overall best student.
The recipients include: Okafor Emmanuella of Urban Girls Secondary School; Akachukwu Elijah of Miracle Secondary School; Chukwu Daniel O. of Bethlehem Secondary School; Chinago Obianuju of Promise International School; Chiamaka of Urban Girls Secondary School.
Best in English Language winners were Asoanya Success of Federal Girls College Ibusa (Junior Secondary) and Okwara Chinaza of Urban Girls (Senior Secondary) while Ezemokwe Emmanuel of Federal Government College, Nise (Junior Secondary) and Nwacheta Chidindu of Federal Government College, Onitsha (Senior Secondary) came out as Best in Mathematics.
Hon Aniunoh noted that, “if the students are plucked out of the streets during the holidays, they would do better things with their time and then make the streets crime free.
“The need to give our future generation sound education would enable them become outstanding among other children from other states.
Aniunoh further announced a scholarship for the overall best student Ezeamama Chideraa to any level he desires to the jubilation of attendees.
Chideraa who is a native of Uga community in Aguata local government area of Anambra state whose parents are traders in Onitsha , filled with joy prayed for more blessings and open doors for Hon Patrick Aniunoh to fulfill his promises to him.
Chidera almost in tears said he never expected anything while coming to the holiday programme but praised God for the opportunity He granted him while encouraging other students not to lose hope as their blessings are on the way.
Chairman of Onitsha South Local Government, Egbuna Achebe represented by his Deputy, Dr (Mrs) Vingel commended Hon. Aniunoh for his interest in education and the youths and applauded his laudable gestures since he was electd.
The Chairman disclosed that Patrick’s 3-months-old representation has been a blessing for the people as he has also attracted the presence of the Ministry of Works to inspect the buildings in the waterways causing massive flooding.
Contributing, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties, Amaka Akudo eulogized Hon Patrick Aniunoh saying “good work speaks for itself” while urging him not to relent on his achievements so far.
Adding his voice, APGA chairman of Onitsha South Local Government Hon. Ike Mofus described Hon Patrick as a square peg in a square hole.
The occasion was well attended by top dignitaries, teachers, students and friends.
