NYSC screens 200 inmates in Bauchi prison

HIV/AIDS: NYSC screens 200 inmates in Bauchi prison
Corp members serving in Bauchi state  said they have tested 200 prison inmates in Bauchi Central Prison to determine their HIV/AIDS status.

The President, HIV/AIDS Community Development Group (CDS), Dr Khalid Adamu, disclosed this  in Bauchi.

Adamu said that there was still high level of ignorance on the virus in the society.

He said that many people were yet to be educated on the virus and level of risk involved in people not living the life of protection.

Adamu said that during a sensitisation programme, the CDS observed that the Tipper Drivers Association in the state were ignorant of the virus and dangers of not knowing their status.

He said that such people were not permanently in one place due to the nature of their job, advising that more public enlightenment should be done by the relevant agencies on the disease.

He called on BACATMA to conduct another study on the prevalence rate of the virus, which he said might decline from the 0.6 per cent in 2012 to a much lesser figure.

This, he said, would enable them to know which category of the society is still vulnerable and ignorant on the disease.
Adamu thanked BACATMA for supporting them with the test kit and FHI 360 for training them.

He also thanked them for allowing them to contribute their quota in the fight against HIV/AIDS and providing services to humanity
