New rotary club president inaugurated

                                                             

The Uyo branch of the Rotary Club International has installed a new president for the 2015/2016 Rotary year.
She is Rotarian, Dr. Mabel Ekanem, the third female and the 32nd president for the 2015/2016 Rotary year.
The installation exercise also witnessed the inauguration of community service projects, inauguration of Board of Directors as well as induction of new members.
In her acceptance speech, at the well attended ceremony, the new president Rotarian Dr. Mabel Ekanem expressed appreciation to members for honouring her and pledged to continue from where her predecessor stopped.
She assured that under her watch, the cardinal objectives of the rotary club will be sustained and commended the immediate past president, Sir Dr. Val Attah for his laudable efforts in moving the club forward in line with  the set objective of the rotary club.
Earlier, in his valedictory speech, the immediate past president, Rotarian Dr. Val Attah listed the achievement of the Uyo Rotary Club International under his watch and thanked members for the support they gave him during the period.
Our correspondent reports that Rotary is an organization of Business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high Ethical Standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
The first Rotary Club meeting was convened by a young lawyer, Paul P. Harris in Chicago, USA on the 23rd of February 1905, making the club, the first service organization in the world.
Rotary Club of Uyo was chartered in June 1983 and becomes one of the 34,823 Rotary Clubs with over a million members around the world.
