Multiple Levies: Rights Group Petitions Anambra Commissioner, Copies Obiano

www.odogwublog.com reports that irked by the spate of multiple levies/ taxes in Anambra State, a human rights body, Fundamental Rights League International, FRLI, has petitioned the State Commissioner for Transport, Hon Ifeanyi Ejikeme and copied Governor Willie Obiano, calling for drastic reduction of the levies/ taxes describing it has wickedness and inhuman to the people.


In the petition, signed by the Chairman of FRLI, Comrade Mike Umezulike and made available to newsmen in Onitsha, FRLI hinted that the most affected group in the arbitrary increase are the commercial tricycle operators (Keke-Na-Pepe) from Onitsha North and South, Idemili North and Ogbaru Local Government Areas.


He said, “they were also forced to pay N750 each for buckets inside their tricycles when there are no space there and from the money they get they also fend for their families”.


“If you look at the amount spent by each keke-na-pepe operator on daily basis it will be above N1200 plus other expenses incurred like fueling and other daily maintenance of their keke-na-pepe.  You have to consider how much they take home and most of them purchased their keke-na-pepe on higher purchase basis.


He urged the State Commissioner and Governor Obiano to investigate the so called government agents who engage in the multiple Levies and high price of tickets with a view to curtailing their illegal activities and allow the road users to operate freely.


The petition which was also copied the State Commissioner of Police, karma Horsea and State Director of Security Service, DSS, he stressed the need for the sanitization of the State revenue windows to serve as a deterrent to would be future  fraudsters from being involve in the state internal revenue generation.
