Lawmaker cautions members over passing Bills without implementation --as House orders on erosion control
www.odogwublog.com reports that the Member Representing Onitsha North 2 constituency in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Edward Obiefune Ibuzo has encouraged his colleagues to stop re-introducing bills already done by their predecessors.
Speaking on the floor of the Assembly , Ibuzo said it serves no interest to be passing bills already passed yet no implementation by the Executive.
He advocated for outright reviewing of all the bills and motions they have passed so far to discovering if they have been assented to and put into practice.
His words: “After I moved a motion last time, I went to drawing board and discovered that same motion was moved in 2009 yet nothing was done till date. What is happening? Most of these laws and motions we are making have been made by our colleagues, who were here between 2009 through 2014, and assented to by the executive, unfortunately most of them are not in practice. We can’t be passing bills and motions that are nowhere to be found in practice. We need practical implementation not in print or broadcast. If possible let us revisit the 5th assembly’s passed bills and laws to see if they have been assented to and put into practice”.
Meanwhile , the Anambra State House of Assembly has called on the state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioner of Works, Hon. Lawrence Chinwuba, and Chairman of Oyi Local Government Area to complete the construction of drainage channels from the New Haven Estate Nkwelle Ezunaka into the Nkwelle Ezunaka bypass.
This was followed by a motion moved by Hon. Vivian Okadigbo of Oyi State Constituency stressing that sequel to heavy downpour, none completion of the abandoned drainage system could result to flood disaster; lost of lives and properties at so many estates where massive development and constructions are ongoing, as well as Nkwelle Ezenaka and Nsugbe communities, who share links with the roads.
