Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has been dubbed incompetent by the Lagos state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to the party, Ambode has been poor in the management of Lagos state and in decision making since taking over the reins of affairs in the state.
This was suggested by Taofik Gani, the publicity secretary of the PDP in Lagos state.
Speaking with The Punch, Gani said that Ambode was fond of taking decisions without anticipating the consequences.
Gani’s remarks comes on the heels of yesterday’s, September 21, traffic congestion on the Third Mainland Bridge, Ikorodu Road, Ojuelegba, Apapa and other connecting routes following indiscriminate parking of vehicles by articulated truck drivers on bridges and other roads.
According to him, the parking resulted from the restriction placed on the movement of trucks between 6am and 9pm by Governor Ambode last month.
He said: “What we are saying now is that all the problems in the state such as the worsening traffic situation in the state is a reflection of Governor Ambode’s inability to manage the state. It is a reflection of his unpreparedness to lead.
“Without trying to sound disrespectful, Lagos is crumbling under Governor Ambode. There is serious traffic congestion, Lagos State University is in its worst crisis ever and yet he says the state is moving forward.
“Lagos has been stagnant since he took over. He needs to apologise to the people of Lagos.”
Earlier in the month, Governor Ambode directed the police in the state to start the enforcement of the relevant section of the traffic law, which restricted the movement of trucks and other long vehicles to between 9pm and 6am in the state.
This comes after a heavy duty container skidded off the Ojuelegba bridge in Lagos and landed on two private cars, crushing the occupants of the vehicles.
A recent report by relevant authorities has revealed that more than 120 Nigerians have died from accidents involving fuel tankers and articulated vehicles in the last five months.
The PDP remarks on Ambode comes just hours after the governor came under severe attack from Lagosians and Nigerians who believe that he is yet to kick the ground running in the state.
