HOW TO SELECT THE SEX OF YOUR BABY AND ENJOY A HAPPY MARRIAGE

It is quite pitiable and unfortunate that many couples have been deprived of marital joy, and some even separated, due to the ignorance of sex preselection. It is written even in the Holy Bible, Hosea 4:6 it says; My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. There is a popular adage in Hausa language which says; "Rashin seni ya fi dere duhu." meaning, lack of knowledge is darker than the night. My fellow writer and good friend, Mr. Nonso Okolo would always say, in the competitive world of today, its either you strive to know more or you are no more. Knowledge is power.

In African society and especially in Nigeria, marriage crises are becoming more rampant among couples with homogenous sex of babies[girls] in particular. Whenever the wife fails to bear male children who would carry on the family's name, her unsatisfied husband would either jettison her from her matrimonial home or the desperate husband will marry a second wife, all in a desperate bid to have male children. Most times the man's relatives especially the female ones would pressurize him to marry and make hay while night has not come. Children are precious gifts from God, and any gift that comes from God should bring happiness and joy. Unfortunately, it is not always the case when a couple keep producing female children. I know of an Igbo man from a rural community in Ebonyi State that had fourteen female children from three different wives. You can imagine how sad such man can be when he leaves this world for the great beyond. Now if such man has equipped himself with the knowledge of baby sex selection, I'm sure he wouldn't have married the second wife, let alone the third, because the first wife would have given him the desired male children.

The first real step towards achieving the desired result is the ability of the woman to accurately calculate her menstrual and ovulation cycle. It is by so doing that the couple will know the appropriate time to engage in sexual activity and give birth to the baby of their desire. For example; couples seeking to give birth to a male child are advised to have sexual intercourse during ovulation period
.
UNDERSTANDING THE TERM OVULATION AND OVULATION PERIOD.
Many big girls even the educated ones misunderstand the difference between ovulation and menstruation. This has led to unwanted or unplanned pregnancies, which most times lead to abortion, which can also endanger the life of the person. Between the age of puberty and menopause, some egg cells would be developing and each month, any one that develops first would be expelled or released from the ovary. When this happens, the fallopian funnel would capture the released egg and direct its course to the womb through the fallopian tube or oviduct. Therefore ovulation simply means the release of egg from the ovary. All things been equal, every woman is supposed to ovulate once every month starting from the age of puberty to the age of menopause when ovulation would cease completely. Ovulation normally occurs in a 24hrs period, that is to say it occurs within one day. During this period, the vaginal environment changes from acidic to alkaline in nature, owing to the increased cervical secretion which is known as the ovulation mucus. Ovulation normally last three days. During this period if a woman engage in sexual activity the sperm released by the sex partner will fertilize the egg released to her uterus and this will result in pregnancy as a new life will begin to grow inside her womb. However, if after the ovulation period there was no sperm to fertilize the egg, the secretion of oestrogen [a hormone that helps in pregnancy] would reduce. As a result, the blood vessels supplying the lining of the uterus becomes twisted and then breaks, this leads to the flow of blood from the uterus through the vagina, and it is now called menstruation. Menstrual period is the period between the first day of menstruation to the day it stops. It normally lasts for about four or three to five days. During the two days before the onset of menstruation, most women usually feel swollen stomach, tired or irritable, or they may have headache or pressure feeling in their pelvis. However most of these symptoms disappear when menstruation sets in. Menstrual cycle starts from the first day of menstruation to the day before the next one.

Ovulation occurs 14 days before the next menstrual date, therefore a woman is required to subtract 14 days from the next predicted or anticipated menstrual date, and any day it falls is her ovulation day. Note: the 14 days should be counted backward from the last day of the menstrual cycle and not forward from the onset. Many women make mistake by counting forward from the first day of menstruation instead of counting backward from the last day of the cycle, as a result, many of them have had babies they did not plan for and their joy is incomplete. For instance, if a woman calculated her menstrual cycle in the month of January and discovers that she has 30 days menstrual cycle, i.e her menstruation starts on 1st January and another starts on  31st January, and that is 30 days cycle. Therefore in order for her to accurately determine or predict her ovulation day, she should count 14 days backward from 31st January, that is to say that her ovulation day is 17th. In the subsequent post we will discuss the method to be adopted in the case of women with irregular menstruation.
