Governor Okorocha at war with Imo senators over anti-labour policies

Angry reactions have started trailing the recent Imo State Government’s policies of concessioning all government parastatals, as well as the embargo on promotion of civil servants in the state.
While Senator Athan Nneji Achonu, representing Imo North senatorial zone,  berated the Governor Rochas Okorocha for his “obnoxious policies and disastrous administration”, the Senate Committee Chairman on Ethics, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, described the policies as “anti-labour, retrogressive and most uncharitable”.
The two senators, who spoke at a function organized in Owerri by the Imo State branch of Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, wondered why the administration should also fail to clear the unpaid salaries ofworkers.
“Governor Okorocha’s policy of concessioning all Government’s parastatals and agencies, for whatever reason, raises serious questions. It also sad that the administration is still owing some workers, despite the bailout fund from the Federal Government,” Senator Anyanwu said.
After giving several reasons for faulting Okorocha’s anti-labour policies, Senator Achonu described what is playing out in the Senate as “democracy at play.”
“What is unfolding in the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly is democracy at play, as there can never be dictatorship in the present administration”, Achonu said.
He absolved President Muhammadu Buhari of having any hand in the current political quagmire playing out in the Senate, but blamed unnamed political actors for fueling the travails of the Senate President.
“It is not the duty of the President to nominate the Senate President. President Buhari is making efforts to be a true democrat. We need to move the nation forward”, Achonu said
Other engineers that spoke at the event, expressed  regret over what they called “the infrastructural decay in the country” and urged President Buhari to appoint a seasoned engineer to serve as Minister of Works.
