Falae: Don’t Abuse Yoruba Hospitality, OPC Warns Fulani Herdsmen

gani-adamsThe National Coordinator of Oodua Peoples’ Congress, OPC, Otunba Gani Adams, has issued a stern warning to the abductors of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, describing the incident as a sin against humanity.
In a statement issued in Lagos, Tuesday, the factional leader of the Yoruba group‎ said the era in which herdsmen would invade farms in Yoruba land and vandalize property was gradually making a comeback.
“We would want to know that the attribute of Yoruba people to be accommodating is not something that should be abused”, said Adams.
“For us, being accommodating is a virtue that was inculcated into us by our forefathers, and should therefore not be seen as a weakness by anybody
“We would, however want to send a note of warning that the Federal Government should do all within its powers to ensure that Baba Falae is returned to his family safe and sound”.
Falae, a chieftain of the Pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, and former presidential candidate, was abducted on his 77th birthday, Monday, at his Ilado farm in Akure, Ondo State.
The police said suspected Fulani herdsmen were identified as the mastermind of the abduction.
The kidnappers have reportedly reduced their demand for ransom from N100 million to N90 million.
While describing the abduction as “ungodly”, Mr. Adams said that apart from being a prominent Yoruba son, Mr. Falae was a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“For a man who lost a very promising son only two years ago to be abducted on his 77th birthday is a dastardly act that should be condemned by all peace-loving and reasonable Nigerians”, said Mr. Adams.
“It is also worrisome that the nation is descending into an era when a citizen is not safe even in his own home”.
