www.odogwublog.com reports that Anambra state Government has debunked the allegation of cholera outbreak in Amansea community, Awka North local government area.
It was reported that Cholera broke out killing 10 based on an interview to newsmen by community leader from Amansea community, Chief Benjamin Onoania.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joe Akabuike visited the community and hospitals around where he was told there was no such cholera case recorded.
Akabuike community dismissed the rumour, and maintained that it was a false alarm, though admitted that the community needs drinkable water which he said that the state government through the ministry of public utility has put modalities in place to arrest the situation.
“I heard the rumour of cholera outbreak in Amansea through media especially social media and that is why I am here, only to find out that it is false alarm”, he said.
The commissioner however, advised the community to quash the fear of cholera outbreak, even as he disclosed that the ministry of public utility has been given mandate by Governor Willie Obiano in Executive council meeting to explore and present statistics of communities that lacks drinkable water in the state which was not Amansea alone but included other communities.
As well, the President General of the Amansea Community, Chief Basil Onwuzulume debunked the allegations too.
He said the community had had enough wrong news as they moved from the scandal of the 50 dead bodies inside the Ezu Bridge to destroying of the prostitutes camp at Gariki and now baseless Cholera outbreak.
He said there was never an outbreak of cholera in his community having met with the village heads and traditional institution to find out if any case was reported in their various villages and clans.
Chief Onwuzulume said: ‘’ categorically there was no single trace of cholera in my community, Amansea. We commend Government of Governor Peter Obi for drilling the borehole and we are begging the government of Chief Willie Obiano to reticulate the borehole and make it clean for drinking as it is not good for drinking now. It runs continuously, no sumo , no generator, it runs on itself causing flooding and that road has been destroyed. The contractor did over 650 ft but it is unchecked and untreated water. If reticulated would give water to Unizik and Ifite Awka area. I can say that the borehole was abandoned and that of Senator Chris Ngige too was abandoned half way as it too runs uncontrollable.
The medical Director in-charge of God the High Tower Hospital and Maternity, Amansea, Dr. Ikele Ikenna, attested to newsmen when visited that there was no such epidemic in Amansea, noting that his hospital has never witnessed such case since three years ago.
