Anambra building collapse: Ekwunife warns contractors…condoles with victims’ families, consoles Senator Nwaogu

www.odogwublog.com reports that Senator Uche Ekwunife, representing Anambra central senatorial zone has warned contractors handling building projects against unprofessional activities which often leads to collapse of buildings under construction and condoled with the families of those that lost their dear ones in the recent incident in Awka, Anambra state.

Ekwunife who was saddened by the incident during her unscheduled visit to the scene of the building collapse expressed concern over incessant cases of building collapse in the state and called on the state government to tighten its policy to curb the dangerous trend.

She attributed the increasing cases of building collapse in the state to greed on the side of both the building owners and contractors while warning that from hence forth, any contractor found to be using sub standard materials would be made to face the full weight of the law.

“I am sad that we are still hearing about building collapse in Anambra state despite our exposure and it goes to show how desperate some landlords can be and how unprofessional some contractors could get in the cause of their duties by yielding to the selfish desires of their clients to use sub standard building materials to construct buildings which has led to many deaths and made women widows and men widowers’

“When the Senate reconvenes, I shall sponsor a motion to that effect because these cases of avoidable deaths in the state especially in Awka the state capital which falls within my senatorial zone are unacceptable and I want to call on the Anambra state government to do more in checking these ugly trend while security agencies should also monitor and report such buildings which are merely death trap to relevant authorities”

The lawmaker also promised to make a representation at the red chambers on the plight of the people of the zone who have been under series of attack from flooding and other natural and ecological disasters.

In a related development, Senator Ekwunife also eulogized late Roland Nwaogu, husband of Senator Nkechi Nwagu, describing him as a noble and peaceful man whose passion for women liberation was total.

She prayed God to grant the departed eternal peace while urging the Nwaogu family to take solace in the Lord on the ground that their father lived a worthy life and had to bow when the ovation was loudest. Ends
