www.odogwublog.com reports that at least one person was feared dead while two others, a driver of a truck and his conductor, sustained various degrees of injuries when the truck that was laden with fresh tomatoes fell on top of a jeep thereby hiting the driver of the jeep to death yesterday.
According to an eyewitness it all started when both the truck and jeep were coming from opposite directions along the Ogidi/Abatete road in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra state and on getting to a bump, both slowed down to cross it.
On the process of crossing the bump, the weight of the truck became lopsided and it fell on top of the jeep and smashed it beyond recognition.
The driver of the jeep reportedly died on the process and it took the concerted efforts of the local vigilance group led by Mr Arthur Ilongwu and on-lookers to bring out his corpse from where it was trapped.
The vigilance outfit boss attributed the cause of the incident to the bump adding, "it is too high for vehicles especially those ones carrying goods. The state government or Abatete people should lessen the height of the bump before it causes more deaths".
Reacting, an Idemili based legal practitioner, Pat Agbata stressed the need for the state government to always look at some of the bumps and recommend for their height to help avoid such road misharps.
Meanwhile there has been grid-lock along the road as at the time of filling this report which made it impossible for some motorists to look for way of diversion as they have a long journey to embark upon.
