Akwa Ibom State Government has said that it would soon establish an international standard Jetty for the berthing of petroleum product vessels and water crafts in the state.

Governor Udom Emmanuel ,who dropped the hint during a courtesy visit on him by members of the Akwa Ibom Chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) at Government House, Uyo, recently, said a groundbreaking for the commencement of the project would soon be carried out.

The governor said the construction of the Jetty would begin with the dredging of the Ibaka waterways with hopes of paving the channels for heavy vessels to convey gas and other petroleum products by marketers through the sea routes to the state.

Emmanuel noted that the difficulties presently facing marketers in procuring products through land would be reduced on completion of the project, stressing that it would subsequently enhance the building of a storage tank  farm in the state.

The Governor urged members of IPMAN to exhibit maturity in the discharge of their services to members of the public, while also withdrawing suits instituted against the government stating that the Task Force on Petroluem Products Monitoring was meant to complement the regulating of services to members of the public.

The chairman of Akwa Ibom State Chapter of IPMAN, Mr. Nse Umanah said the visit was to congratulate the governor on his victory at the polls, commending him on the pursuit of the industrialization policy of the state.

Mr. Umanah attributed the present insufficient product in the state to higher cost of procuring the products from major marketers in other states.

He called on the government for assistance in securing land for a secretariat, pledging their continuous loyalty to the government.
