72-yr-old grandpa docked for raping 11-yr-old girl

                                                              
A 72-year-old grandfather in Edo State, Pa Solomon Ugiagbe, has been dragged before an Egor Magistrate’s Court sitting in Benin, the state capital, for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl.

Pa Ugiagbe who is said to have grown up grand children, allegedly committed the offence at his residence when he lured the minor into his room when his wife and children were not around and sexually defiled her.

The sordid secret was only revealed when the girl's mother noticed her walking awkwardly and on questioning, she confessed that the suspect defiled her.

The charge against Pa Ugiagbe reads:

“That you, Solomon Ugiagbe, on November 13, 2014, on Okungbowa Street, Evbuotubu, Benin City, in the Egor Magisterial District, did unlawfully have carnal knowledge of one (name withheld) aged 11 years, by inserting your penis into her vaginal and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 218 of the Criminal Code, Cap 48 Vol. II, Law of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976, as applicable in Edo State.”

The accused person pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him and the presiding magistrate, William Aziegbemhin, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 and while adjourning the case till October 5, 2015.
