It was a bad day in Lokoja Friday night as blood flowed freely following the invasion of the State headquarters of the Department of State Service, Lokoja by gunmen suspected to be members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect.
Three members of the sect were reportedly killed during the attack which also claimed the life of a Mobile Police man.
The insurgents who arrived at about 10.20pm and heavily armed with IEDs, AK47 rifles and other dangerous weapons, Sunday Sun learnt, bombarded the DSS office as they engaged the officials on duty in a fierce duel.
It was gathered that the insurgents after gaining entry into the headquarters located along Hassan Katsina Road, immediately went to the cell of the agency where they allegedly set free all the inmates in detention.
Sensing more danger, a Deputy Director of the agency was said to have quickly put a distress call to the police at about 10.40pm, which immediately mobilized its men to the scene to repel the attack.
Sunday Sun gathered that the police team in conjunction with the military engaged the insurgents for over seven hours before repelling the insurgents who were said to have fled leaving three members of their dead.
When contacted, the State Police Commissioner, Emmanuel Ojukwu confirmed the incident, but said detectives have spread out their dragnets to arrest the fleeing Insurgents.
