Why NNPC trimmed workforce

New NNPC boss, Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu
The top hierarchy of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in a statement gave reasons why they decided to trim their workforce and get new staff on board.

In the course of the workforce pruning exercise, 38 top management staff were retired. This reduced the number from 122 to 83.

This is coming on the heels of the Presidential approval of the appointment of new Group Executive Directors.

The statement said "Also in line with the aspiration to reposition the Corporation, 12 personnel have been recruited from the private sector into the top management cadre to jump-start a new business outlook to enhance the operational environment as a profit-driven business as against the current civil service orientation."

The new GEDs include, Dr. Maikanti Baru, Group Executive Director, Exploration & Production; Isiaka Abdulrazaq, Group Executive Director, Finance & Services; Engr. Dennis Nnamdi Ajulu, Group Executive Director, Refining & Technology; and Dr. Babatunde Victor Adeniran, Group Executive Director, Commercial & Investment.
